Wow!! Where do we start when talking about the 2026 US Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey Team! I know, let’s start with Laila Edwards, forgive me but I must give her an extra shout out since she is from my hometown Cleveland Heights, Ohio!

Laila made history by being the first Black woman to play for Team USA in Olympic women’s ice hockey, a groundbreaking moment for the sport. But she didn’t just make the roster, she made an impact. With strong ice time and fearless play, Laila scored her first Olympic goal in a commanding 6–0 victory over Italy. She finished the tournament with two goals and six assists.

One of those assists were a critical game changer in the championship game against Canada, our longtime rivals! With just over two minutes left in regulation, Laila delivered the defining assist to veteran star Hilary Knight, tying the game and electrifying the arena. The momentum was undeniable. The US took that momentum into overtime, and Megan Keller sealed the deal scoring the only goal in overtime securing victory 2-1 for the US. Placing the US Women’s Ice Hockey team on top of the podium taking Gold. US went a dominating 7-0 in the tournament.
