When you think of fitness, what comes to your mind? Do you think of a packed gym and sweat dripping from intense exercise? Do you think of running outside on a warm day with the sun kissing your skin? Or do you think of a group exercise class? Most people associate fitness with exercise and being fit. But fitness isn’t just for “being fit”. It’s so you can keep up with your kids as you get older. It’s for being able to carry laundry baskets up and down the steps without your knees giving a drumline performance. It’s about walking at 80 with no assistance.

One of my most rewarding moments as a personal trainer was a client sharing when she went on vacation, she could keep up with her family. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, she was hiking alongside her nieces and nephews. The sessions were worth it not just because she could physically do it, but because she was able to create new memories that she previously would’ve missed out on due to lack of cardiovascular endurance.

Having a consistent fitness routine means sporty options on vacation, a wide range of mobility and strong bones in older age, and an overall longer life span. When you commit to your fitness journey, you open up your capabilities and capacity to enjoy life. You only live life once. That’s the famous saying. Why not live life to the fullest with your most mobile and capable body? Everyday is a new day to start your fitness journey! Consider starting today.
